I've had a few dealings with Mr. Wyrosdick with 4 kids in Navarre schools. Base on my personal experience, I don't think Santa Rosa county can afford to have him in charge.

The cost of the school board's legal fees will go through the roof.

UWF PRESENTS SUMMER DANCE WORKSHOP

PENSACOLA - The University of West Florida Nautilus Dance Institute, part of the Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science, will present a summer dance workshop Aug. 2 and 3 on the UWF Pensacola campus. Led by internationally acclaimed jazz dance instructor, Marcus Alford, classes will be offered for beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers, as well as for teachers. Fees are based upon dance level and observers are allowed to watch. Workshop classes include technique in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, musical theatre, pointe, lyrical, salsa and partnering techniques, as well as and fitness classes in yoga, latin Cardio dance and "rock hard ab" workouts.

Alford has served on the faculty of Dance Masters of America, Dance Educators of America, the International Ballet Competition, the University of Cologne in Germany, as well as Germany's International Tanz Wekstatt. He also performed, choreographed and taught for Gus Giordano, Jazz Dance Chicago, for 11 years. He and his wife Annie Day direct the Georgia-based company Jazz Dance Theatre South and are the founders of Atlanta's dance festival, "Jazz on Tap." Alford received a bachelor's degree in modern dance from the University of Alabama, and he is also the author of "Jazz Danceology," an instructional dance textbook.

Other instructors include Day, Michael Wardlaw, UWF Department of Theatre faculty and Michelle Lewis. Day is a National Dance Institute faculty member who has taught for the Hines-Hatchett Performing Arts Centre and JoJo's Dance Factory, both on Broadway in New York City. She is on the faculty of Dance Masters of America and the Dance Educators of America, has participated in workshops across the nation and has appeared in videos and technique books. Wardlaw was a soloist with the Cincinnati Ballet, Tulsa Ballet and the Albany Berkshire Ballet. He has also taught at the Harrid Conservatory and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Dance. Michelle Lewis, an award- winning choreographer previously based in Atlanta, has won awards for choreography from Star Systems, Starbound and the International Dance Challenge.

Other guest faculty include Pensacola's Starr Burlingame, certified by the Dance Educators of America, and Larita Carter, director of the Pensacola Junior College Dance and Cheer Squads.

Ok for some this is stupid but my family has no more choices left.... We have done all we can and still she refuses to put down the habits she developed. I myself am from the area, I brought her there & ended up leaving because of the lifestyle she was beginning to participate in. Due to her choices in life she has lost EVERYTHING including her children & all family. Her name is Johnna Chiles (Anthony) she goes by Johnnie or Johnnie baby. She is approx 5'6-8 her weight can vary depending on her use so anywhere from 120 -160 lbs she will be 21 on july 21st. She is caught up in "the game" very badly & is flagged by the police dept as a narcotics user & dealer. Because of this we are not able to file a missing persons report for at least 6 months. Anyway the point is we havent heard from her in a couple of months & what we have heard wasnt verified....so ANYONE in the panhandle area (she gets around anywhere from Cantonment to Destin) PLEASE PLEASE contact me (alicia) via email at Raynebowglider@yahoo.com also any ideas on how to help her ...yes we know SHE has to want help first (i am a recoverring alcoholic myself so I am aware of the hold on someone) we love her & just want to know she is at least alive

I am travel planning and need to know if the road from santa rosa island about where the portofino condos are to navarre is driveable and open? I would like to drive along the beaches and not have to go to the expressway if possible. I remember it had washed out when the hurricaines of the past did major damage. I don't want any surprises like the road ending all of a sudden and theres water!!! is the bridge open also? Please let me know asap thanks in advance.

Congratulations to the 400 plus Navarre High students - Class Of 2008 that graduated on stage at the Pensacola Civic Center last night.

It was a very nice ceremony. Great to see such an intelligent, friendly and good-looking group of young men and women.

Navarre should be extremely proud of our school system and the top honors that these students have achieved.

Go Raiders !

Road closure

Manatee Street in Holley by the Sea will be closed at the intersection of Bahama Drive on today. The closure is to allow county crews to replace the storm drain pipe under Manatee. Detours will be around the adjacent blocks. The road will be reopened by 5:30 p.m.

Road closures at Eglin

Certain roads around Eglin Air Force Base will be blocked on May 21 for a test mission:
Noon to 4:30 p.m.: Bob Sikes Road at Hwy. 285
3:30 to 5 p.m,: Bob Sikes Road east and west; Range Road 257 at the Ranger Camp opening; Bob Sikes Road at Range Road 238; Range Road 236 at Range Road 2501 (substation); Range Road 234 to Range Road 687; Range Road 253 at first bridge; Bob Sikes Road at Hwy. 87; Range Road 211 at Hwy. 87; Range Road 211 at Range Road 717; and Range Road 236 at Range Road 688.

Several missions will occur using the same road closure plan. This may cause closures of 20-30 minutes.

White Sands Boulevard on Navarre Beach will be closed from Missouri Street to Indiana Street for sanitary sewer work from Tuesday, May 13 through Thursday, May 15. The road is scheduled to be open by Friday, May 16.

Proposed Navarre Pass

Please correct me if I am wrong.......

I have one question about this entire situation.

If the Navarre Pass comes in, will this have any affect on future hurricanes?
By this I mean, Navarre Beach is a "barrier island" and if we cut a hole in the "barrier" will this allow more water to flood the mainlands?

I pay enough money in Insurance & Property Taxes to live here, and as I am sure that everyone will agree, we are all going "insurance poor". So if the pass goes through, will the Insurance Companies have to redo the "flood zones"?

I don't know where to look to get these answers, so please can someone tell me if these are legitimate concerns? If I am wrong I am 100% for the Pass, but if I am right, and this will compromise my Family & Homes safety, I am 100% against it.

Blood drive

A blood drive will be held at St. Francis Veterinary Center on April 21, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. The blood will be collected by Northwest Florida Blood Center, Inc. The drive is being held to benefit Carri Wieser, who is an employee at St. Francis and was injured April 15. St. Francis is located at 6925 Navarre Parkway in Navarre, near Holley by the Sea.

Bellingham Street in Navarre will be closed between Edgewood Drive and Camden Drive for drainage work today. Traffic can detour north on Kempton street or south on Glassport Street. The road is expected to reopen today at about 3 p.m.
